Tommy Hilfiger X Romeo Hunte

Brand partnership visual identity · Global · 2021

The Tommy X Romeo collection clashes Manhattan prep with Brooklyn street, for a look at once familiar and completely new. It is part of the ‘People’s Place Program’ which is all about creating opportunities for creative talent from underrepresented BIPOC communities. The collection is codesigned with Brooklyn designer Romeo Hunte. The dual gender fall collection digs into the Hilfiger archives, using Hunte’s signature deconstruction techniques to reconstruct, remix and reimagine iconic pieces.

During this project I worked closely together with an art director. While he was responsible for the general mood of the collaboration, my job was to define the graphic elements supporting the vision. The logo was already provided by the garment designers, however the rest was up to me. I incorporated the square grid from Romeo’s logo into my designs, overlaying it across images and giving the layouts a more unique look. The collection was based on the idea of deconstruction which I expanded further into my designs by applying diverse glitches and image distortion elements. The logo animation is the best example of the concept as the diverse pieces come into place through dismantle. I applied the same principles to text animation.
